Or, The Stash Closet Runneth Over!
As a result of joining a new lace list, Summer of Lace, and an obsessive quest for yarn to knit Lucy's Diamonds scarf, I have gone on a ridiculous shopping spree.
Today I received yarn and the Lavish Lace book from Knit Picks. I love the Alpaca Cloud and well...the jury is out on the Shimmer. I ordered the Morning Mist - and it is very strange looking.
I also received an order from Hand painted yarns. At $5.95 for 850 yards of yarn - it is not great stuff. Single ply and here is a photo.
And then I found Robin.
Lucy's Diamonds & Faina's Scarf in alpaca sport weight. These hanks look almost the same...I am hoping the real yarn is darker in the 2nd picture.

And then the Ultimate Lace Experience!
I visited Sharon and Mike's Heirloom Knitting .
Here is what I discovered!
Her Name is MELANIE If you click on the link, you too can have a Melanie! Check out the colors of 2 ply yarn that are offered on the Heirloom site.
THE MELANIE GUESSING GAME
I couldn't decide on an color - and Sharon picked one for me. My choices were, Turquoise, Dark Blue or Violet.
Anyone care to guess what it will be? It will be a surprise to me as well. I am so excited! I rarely get a surprise.
I decided to make this a fun, GUESSING GAME!
Here is how it will work. Guess what color yarn will be in the package that Mike Miller mailed to me Friday, June 17 from the UK. Send me in your choice of the 3 colors I listed, TURQUOISE, DARK BLUE OR VIOLET - via your blog comments...
I will write each color choice on the front and your name, printed on the inside of folded, identical pieces of paper.
Since you have a 1 in 3 chance of wining, there will be duplicates...thus, everyone who guess the right color goes into the draw. When the yarn arrives, (about 2 weeks), I will have Vader and Dennis draw a name. There will be a small gift sent to the winner.
UPDATE 6-24-05 10:03 PST
The Melanie Pattern arrived but the yarn has NOT arrived. Still time to take a guess!
To be continued...
I'm guessing Turquoise.

In regards to the lace weight from handpaintedtarn.com - it's not that bad. When I first decided that I wanted to play around with lace knitting, I got some because it was so absurdly cheap. 800 yards for $6? Sure, I'll experiment.
I certainly wouldn't use it for a time intensive pattern or an heirloom piece but it's not bad for simple, quick knits or to learn new lace patterns. I'm using it to make a simple feather and fan shawl. I'm also knitting some up on US 8 needles to make a sheer pullover, to be worn over a cami.
