Or, The Mailman Brings Knitting Booty!
And Booty it is! I feel like a pirate.
I got my Amazon order that contained Sally Melville's, "Book 3: Color," and Ann Feitelson's, " The Art of Fair Isle Knitting." Also finding its way to my knitting library, was Barbara Walker's, "Treasury, Book 2." That gives me all 4 of Barbara's books - at last! I have been buying 1 a year for 3 years. This one was free. I had gift certificates to spend at my LYS, (it pays to train your friends to give Gift Certificates to your LYS for every occasion).
I bought the, " Art of Fair Isle Knitting," because it is as much an essential part of a knitting library, as Barbara Walker's Treasuries are. Especially for a person that loves Fair Isle.
The Feitelson book has a pattern that I admired in Anne Featonby's Gallery called the, "Hillswick Lumber" cardigan. When the book arrived, I fell in love with the Lunna and the Sandwater jumpers as well as all the other designs. Many great patterns and Fair Isle history and techniques presented in a different way than Alice Starmore's, "Fair Isle Knitting."
But, what really blew me away, was Sally Melville's, " Book 3: Color." IMVHOP, a great buy! Color theory in a nutshell. Many ideas and patterns. I consider this a wonderful find for a person who loves color knitting like I do.
It is chock full of ideas and great visuals with lots of ideas re: the use of variegated yarns. The explanations of color theory and technique that even I can read and understand. Everyone who knows me, realizes I am dyslexic and have a tough time with reading as well as comprehension. So when I say it is easy to comprehend, it really is.
It remains to be seen if it is another XRX book riddled with errors. Before I knit anything, I will check for errata.
On top of the books, I received my little order of Palette fingering weight yarns. I am going to knit a Fair Isle vest from these yarns. The dark purple yarn is missing. Unavailable right now.
The yarn looks good in the ball ~ but the jury will be out for a while. I am not going to invest months of knitting in anything with this yarn, until I see for myself. I thought a vest would be a fast knit.
If it is decent substitute for Shetland wool, at the price and yardage, it will make Fair Isle affordable for those who want options other that Shetland yarn. A 25 hank cardigan is $150.00 @ 6.00 a hank now. With the short yardage put-ups nowadays, I would guess that the cost would be more like $175.00 excluding shipping. I plan to compare this with the same vest done in the called for Shetland yarns, if I can't find one.
Below, is the group of colors minus the dk purple. I have taken liberties with the pattern's called for yarns in order to accommodate the small palette of colors that is included in the Palette line.
Can anyone GUESS what vest I am going to make with this Knit Picks Palette yarn?
There are 3 people that might know what I am planning. They won't say anything. Be sure to remember the dark purple and imagine it is in the pile. It isn't available right now. BTW, these colors are really accurate.
HUMM...what am I going to knit?
