The Potato Chip Scarf

Or, How to tell when you need to put a halt to your Christmas Knitting!

Three Knit Picks scarves made out of odds and ends of clearance yarns!

After I totally fouled up Clhoe's pink vest and it ended up in the fireplace, I decided to knit a Potato Chip Scarf from my Knit Picks Catalog.

I grabbed some variegated, pink yarn and some rayon ribbon yarn for shine and put them together and Viola!  I had a Potato Chip Scarf!

My lamp is wearing my attempt!  You can use any sort of left over yarn. Knit Picks has one done in Suri Dream, that brushed alpaca that matted up when I touched it.  I have 3 balls of Suri hidden in my stash.  I may just have to do another one! (click on the thumbnails for a chance to see the rayon shine)

I am sad that I threw away some really ugly, variegated mohair I had.  It would have turned out pretty well. I think this one is pretty cute.  Sure to delight my Underground Knitting urges!                                                               

You will all be glad to hear that I went to town and bought Chloe a sweater vest and other goodies that any 5 year old would love.                                      

The Gold Rush Poncho

I have been doing more Underground Knitting. This is my definition of knitting designs that are too popular or totally unpopular.  Otherwise labeled, "Oh My Eyes, My Eyes," designs.

These are designs that gain disfavor among traditional knitters, of which, I am one!  Every once in awhile, I kick over the traditional traces and knit something pretty radical. 

Thank goodness I have all these Granddaughters to knit for!  Otherwise I wouldn't have an excuse.

I finished this poncho for Rochelle 5 MONTHS ago

and I was ashamed to admit it.

AND here is what the poncho looked like when I finished it.

Pluto is modeling for me.  I mailed it on the 22nd of August and she got it on the 25th.  It was her birthday gift.

I purchased a pair of nutmeg, suede pants, size 3, (slightly too large no doubt).

Due to poor photography, they look huge here.

I am told that Rochelle loved her poncho and suede pants.  I am promised a photo of her modeling the outfit. 

I hope her mother gets a hair dryer or a fan to created the 'wind-tossed look' for my photo and we shall see how it stacks up against the Knitters cover picture. 

My rendition of this design has 2 more panels and lots more fringe,(perhaps too much fringe, but it can be thinned out if she wants). I used all the yarns asked for if they were obtainable and some were not.  I bought some at the local LYS and lots on the Internet.

I will have to say, it was fun to knit and I hear, totally cute on a 18 year old, teeny girl.

Until then - I will have to pretend what the Gold Rush will look like on Rochelle.

CLAPPING FOR CLAPOTIS!

Or, This Year's Underground Knitting! 

Underground knitting is knitting which one hesitates to mention to fellow knitters for fear of ridicule.  That happens with especially popular patterns geared for newer knitters.  This is one of those patterns.

I always do a bit of Underground knitting between my larger projects like Fernando.  It helps me clear my mind in preparation of taking on another, more difficult project.  Sort of like reading a Mystery novel after struggling through Moby Dick!

I plan the Arabesque vest next, with forays into the Flying Geese jacket that is aging in my knitting basket.  Geese have been nesting for a couple of winters now.  It is time to finish.

Here is this years Underground knitting!  The projects are Clapotis scarves.  The pictures below are scarves in various states of completion. Most of these pictures are courtesy of Margaret of Manhattan done in Noro Silk Garden in #87 (rainbow scarf) and 208 (green scarf). 

My Clapotis is the small offering in the upper left corner.  It is also done in Noro Silk Garden - # 201.  A great take-a-long project and fun to boot.  I have ordered more NORO to knit another.
